What is Marivel?
Marivel is a memory aid for medication. You record your own medication, dosing schedules and stock. At the times you set, you get a notification on your phone.
If you choose to, Marivel can also alert a caregiver when a planned dose stays unconfirmed.
Marivel does not diagnose, does not check interactions, and does not give treatment or dosage advice.
Who is Marivel for?
Marivel is for anyone who manages their own medication and wants a memory aid to do so. The app can be especially useful if you:
- take several different medications;
- have multiple doses per day;
- sometimes wonder whether you've already taken something;
- want to keep track of your stock;
- optionally want one or more caregivers notified.
No technical knowledge is required. The app and this website include an illustrated manual.
Does Marivel work on Android and iPhone?
Yes. Marivel was built for Android and iPhone.
Some screens and permissions look slightly different between the two platforms. The manual marks these differences separately.
Marivel is not yet available on Google Play or the App Store. Once the app is published, the download links will appear on this website.
Do I need an account?
No. Regular use of Marivel does not require creating an account.
Your medication, schedules, stock and dose history are stored locally, in the app's private storage on your own device.
Is my medication data stored in the cloud?
No. Marivel does not use cloud storage to keep your medication, dosages, schedules, stock or dose history.
By default this data stays exclusively on your device. Marivel's developer cannot see it.
If you export a backup yourself and store it in a cloud folder, the privacy and security terms of that cloud service apply from that point on.
Does Marivel work without internet?
Regular medication reminders and the local record of your doses work without an internet connection.
Internet access is needed for a few functions:
- pairing and alerting a caregiver;
- sending confirmations to the caregiver server;
- receiving notifications as a caregiver.
If the connection is temporarily unavailable, the app retries sending data later. An internet connection remains necessary for notifications to work between different devices.
What does a paired caregiver see?
A paired caregiver only sees limited information, needed for the alert function:
- the time a dose was expected;
- whether that dose was confirmed;
- when the device last checked in with the server.
The caregiver does not see:
- the name of the medication;
- the dose or strength;
- your stock;
- your full medication schedule;
- your full dose history.
An alert states, for example, that "a dose at 08:00 was not confirmed", but not which medication it concerns.
Is the caregiver feature required?
No. The caregiver feature is entirely optional and off by default.
You decide yourself whether to turn it on and who to pair. In the app you can see which caregivers are paired, and you can also unpair one.
Regular medication reminders keep working without a caregiver.
When does my caregiver get an alert?
A caregiver is not alerted immediately at the planned dose time. Marivel first waits out the configured grace period.
If the dose is still unconfirmed after that, the server sends one alert to each reachable, paired caregiver. The caregiver is not alerted again at every following server check for the same missed dose.
If a patient's device stays silent for a longer period, a separate alert can be sent for that. Silence can, for example, mean the device is switched off, has no connection, or the app is no longer actively used.
Can I rely on every notification arriving?
No, no notification system can guarantee that every notification always arrives.
A notification can fail to appear when, among other things:
- the device is switched off;
- the battery is empty;
- notifications are not allowed;
- there is no internet connection;
- battery optimisation limits the app;
- the app has been uninstalled;
- Apple, Google, the server, or the mobile network is temporarily unreachable.
Where possible, Marivel checks whether a paired device still appears reachable, but that check also offers no absolute guarantee.
For critical medication, never rely on Marivel alone. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's prescription and instructions.
Does Marivel use Firebase or other external services?
For Android notifications, Marivel uses Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. On iPhone, external notifications are delivered via the Apple Push Notification service.
These services are only used to deliver a notification to a caregiver's device. The medication name, dose, strength, stock and dose history are not included in such a notification.
Scheduling, checking and the limited logging of caregiver alerts happen on the Marivel server. More information is in the privacy policy.
Does Marivel contain ads or tracking?
No. Marivel contains no advertising and does not track how you use the app for marketing purposes.
No advertising profiles are built, and your medication data is not sold.
Where does the medication data come from?
The medication list depends on the country you choose in the app:
- Belgium: data from the BCFI;
- the Netherlands: the CBG's Medicines Information Bank;
- France: the Base de données publique des médicaments.
The list is included in the app as a snapshot. It can therefore be older than the current official database. New or changed products only appear after a Marivel update.
The official package leaflet and your doctor's or pharmacist's advice always take precedence.
Can Marivel check whether medications are safe to take together?
No. Marivel does not check interactions, contraindications, allergies, or duplicate medication.
The app:
- does not diagnose;
- does not calculate dosage;
- does not evaluate treatment;
- does not suggest changes to your medication.
For any question about a medication, dose, or combination, always contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Does Marivel adjust my stock automatically?
When you confirm a dose, Marivel adjusts your stock by the configured amount.
If stock drops below the threshold you chose, the medication appears on your reorder list. Always check your actual stock before ordering a new pack.
Can I snooze or skip a dose?
From a reminder, you can confirm a dose, skip it, or snooze it for fifteen minutes.
"Skipped" only means you're recording that status in Marivel. The app does not advise skipping a prescribed dose. Never change your schedule or dose without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
Can I move my data to another phone?
You can export a backup from the app. You choose yourself where to keep that file or who to send it to.
A backup can contain sensitive health data. Store and send the file carefully. Preferably use a location or transfer method you trust, and delete copies you no longer need.
What happens if I lose my phone or uninstall the app?
Your local data can be lost if you uninstall the app, wipe the phone, or the device becomes inaccessible. Without an earlier backup, Marivel cannot restore this data for you, because there is no central copy of your medication data.
If you lose or replace your phone, it's a good idea to:
- install Marivel on the new device;
- restore an available backup;
- allow notifications again;
- check or re-pair caregivers;
- confirm the device shows as reachable.
What languages is Marivel available in?
The app, website and manual are available in:
- Dutch;
- French;
- English.
The medication list is determined by the country you choose, not by the app's language.
Which countries can I use Marivel in?
Marivel includes medication lists for:
- Belgium;
- the Netherlands;
- France.
You can also use the reminder functions elsewhere, but the available medication list stays tied to one of these three countries.
What does Marivel cost?
Marivel will be offered as a subscription. The final price will be announced at launch.
Before you subscribe, the cost, what's included, and how to cancel will be clearly stated.
Is Marivel a medical device?
No. Marivel is a memory aid, not a medical device within the meaning of European Regulation 2017/745.
The app makes no medical decisions and does not replace your doctor, pharmacist, or any other care provider. Never change a treatment, dose, or schedule based on the app.
What should I do for an urgent medical question?
Do not use Marivel for urgent medical help.
For questions about your treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist. In a medical emergency, call 112.
Where can I find the manual?
You can find the manual:
- in Marivel, via Overview → Open manual (PDF);
- online via the website;
- as a PDF, to open, download, or print.
The manual is available in Dutch, French and English.
How can I get in touch?
For general questions about Marivel, you can email info@marivel.be.
Please don't include medication names, dosages, or other sensitive health data in a regular email. Marivel doesn't need that information to answer a general technical question.
